Course Overview: Scenic Routes Through Waikiki & Beyond
The course offers breathtaking ocean views along world-famous Waikiki Beach, and panoramic views of Diamond Head and Koko Head.
While mostly flat, runners should prepare for short uphill grades around Diamond Head.
The race begins at Ala Moana Beach Park and passes through downtown Honolulu, including sights like Iolani Palace and Aloha Tower.
Around Mile 5, you’ll run along Kalakaua Avenue with views of Waikiki before ascending toward Diamond Head.
The route continues into Kahala, a quiet residential area, and then onto the Kalanianaole Highway into Hawaii Kai with rolling hills and flat stretches.
As you loop back toward Kahala Avenue, you’ll find cheering spectators lining the course.
The final stretch includes a gentle incline back up to Diamond Head, followed by a downhill finish into Kapiolani Park.

There is no official deadline to register — you can even register in person at the Honolulu Marathon Expo held in the days leading up to race day.
However, fees rise the longer you wait, so early registration is encouraged.
