Waikiki Gym Guide: Best Fitness Options for Travelers

Stay Fit in Waikiki: Top Gyms and Fitness Spots for Travelers

When you go on vacation, it can be tempting just to forget about your usual health and fitness routine.

After all, it’s supposed to be a relaxing escape from the chaos of day-to-day life, and it’s not like you can take your gym with you.

But if you avoid exercise altogether, even only for a short time, it can be challenging to get back into that good habit you’ve developed once you return home.

Maintaining fitness with regular workouts while you’re away will help keep your energy levels up and on track toward any goals you might have.

If you’re fortunate enough to be traveling to Waikiki, there’s really no excuse with so many options to support or even enhance your fitness level.

Whether you’re looking for a quick workout or something more structured at an exercise studio, our Waikiki Gym Guide will provide all you need to know to keep fit on your Hawaiian vacation.

ClassPass works by purchasing credits that can be used to book time at a wide range of gyms, studios, spas, and more.

You’ll find multiple venues where you can use ClassPass credits in Waikiki.

You’ll find everything from dance-focused exercise, incorporating cardio with strength training for a full-body workout, to stretching.

Mo’ili’ili Fitness

Only a short distance from FIRST CABIN INTERNATIONAL HAWAII in the Waikiki Business Plaza, Mo’ili’ili Fitness is a highly rated, partially outdoor gym.

It offers strength and conditioning classes along with open gym sessions for workouts on your own.

Hot yoga is possible too, with Hot Yoga Waikiki offering infrared heated classes that are held in a room heated to 105 degrees Fahrenheit, with breathtaking Waikiki views.

Need a Quick Workout? Try These Outdoor Fitness Spots

Beachfront Gym at Fort DeRussy Park

You’ll find a beachfront Waikiki gym in Fort DeRussy Park with VitaCourse 2000 workout stations.

Scattered throughout the 71-acre beachfront park, it includes all the stations necessary for creating your own outdoor gym for full-body circuit training.

Each one offers a unique workout that targets a specific muscle group.

Waikiki Beach Morning Run

If you like to run, rising early is worth it for the chance to get some good exercise while zooming past spectacular scenery without the big crowds.

One of our favorite routes starts from Kapiʻolani Regional Park and travels north along the waterfront path.

Continue along Kalakaua Ave and the Sheraton/Halekulani Boardwalk, which both follow the coast, delivering views of the two-mile-long beach.

You’ll reach Fort DeRussy Park at 1.4 miles in where you can take advantage of the outdoor gym equipment and/or add the half-mile loop on the boardwalk that winds around the lagoon.

Outdoor Yoga with a View

It’s also possible for visitors to join a private, semi-private, or group yoga session on the oceanfront lawn in Kapiolani Park through Over the Rainbow.

A variety of yoga classes are available, from power to vinyasa, along with pre-natal and post-natal options.

Yoga Under the Palms sets up all-level vinyasa classes beneath the shade on the grass near the water.

And, as previously noted, Waikiki Yoga hosts yoga classes too, including options right on the sand – so much more enjoyable than the hard floor of a gym with a view of a wall!

Rent a Bike and Ride Along Ala Moana

There are many outfitters where you can rent a bike in Waikiki, including GoGo Rental in the heart of Waikiki, only a mile from the Waikiki Business Plaza.

Or, take advantage of the bike sharing program.

Biki bike stops can be found throughout Waikiki, including one in the Waikiki Shopping Plaza.

You’ll notice a row of aqua-blue bicycles, making them easy to spot.

Cycling to Ala Moana Beach Park brings the chance to pedal a paved, roughly 2.5-mile path that follows the beautiful shoreline, showcasing awe-inspiring ocean views.

You’ll find trees for shade and public water fountains along the way.

Diamond Head Hike

Diamond Head is one of Hawaii’s most iconic symbols, located near the eastern edge of the Waikiki coastline.

A trek to the summit of the 762-foot-tall tuff cone brings one of the most jaw-dropping views in the state.

The vista includes the island’s shoreline, Waikiki, and the endless blue of the Pacific.

Plus, this is like a stair-climbing cardio workout at the gym, only much better, as you’ll be outdoors, immersed in this tropical paradise.

Insider Tip: If you hike the steep .8-mile trail in the winter, you may be able to catch a sunrise, provided you start right when the park gates open at 6 a.m. Be aware that reservations are required for non-residents.

Of course, while you’re in Waikiki, you’ll have a long list of even more fun ways to stay active so you don’t lose that fitness level you worked so hard to obtain.

Just a few of the options include sea kayaking, SUP, swimming, snorkeling, and surfing.

As we conclude, we’ll reveal just one more reason you should focus on being physical inside or outside the gym during your visit to Waikiki…

…It’s the perfect way to burn those calories from all the delicious Hawaiian food and drink you’ll want to indulge in!

One more thing to keep in mind for those who plan to spend more time focused on Waikiki activities, in the gym and at the beach rather than your room: consider a stay at an affordable Japanese-style capsule hotel.

Booking a stay at FIRST CABIN INTERNATIONAL HAWAII means you’ll have more room in your budget for all the fun things you’d like to do.
